Road and highway dept officials’ leave cancelled

Leave of all officials of Road and Highway Department (RHD) has been cancelled from June 15 to three days after Eid-ul-Fitr to ensure hassle-free journey for Eid holidaymakers.

Road Transport and Bridges Division issued the order today for the “sake of people’s interest”, said an official circular.

The step came when the RHD has already taken several other steps to make people Eid journey hassle-free amid apprehension of possible suffering, the circular reads.

Every year, tens of thousands of people leave the capital Dhaka to celebrate Eid with near and dear ones at their village homes. But their journey often turns bitter largely due to traffic jam, overcharging of tickets and delays in bus and train schedule.
