Sagar-Runi murder: Rab now asked for probe report by Feb 10
A Dhaka court has asked Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) to submit by February 10 the probe report in a case filed over death of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
Metropolitan Magistrate Debbrata Biswas passed the order after Khondker Shafiqul Alam, an additional superintendent of Rab and also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit any probe report of the case by today.
With this, the investigation officer failed 70 deadlines to submit the report.
Earlier on November 11, the High Court expressed disappointment at the lack of significant progress in investigation into the sensational murder case.
On that date, the IO appeared before the HC and said he was continuing the probe to find out the real culprits responsible for committing such crime.
The HC had asked the IO to appear before it following a writ petition filed by one of the accused Tanvir Rahman for scrapping trial proceedings against him in the case.
Earlier, the lower courts also expressed their dissatisfaction over the probe and asked the investigation officers to complete it as early as possible.
Sagar, news editor at private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were killed in the early hours of February 11, 2012 at their rented flat in the capital’s West Razabazar.
After investigation by Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police, Rab started probing the murder on April 18, 2012.
Different agencies have so far arrested eight people for their alleged involvement with the killing. Of them, two including Tanvir were earlier granted bail while six others are now in jail.
