SSC examinee sexually ‘harassed by UP chairman’ in Jhalakathi

An SSC examinee was reportedly sexually harassed by a union parishad (UP) chairman in Nalchity upazila of Jhalakathi as the female student refused to marry him.

The 14-year-old girl of North Ranapasha village brought the allegation in a press conference in Jhalakathi Reporters Unity today, reports our local correspondent.

“Masudur Rahman Salam, chairman of Ranapasha Union, has been harassing the girl sexually for many days for not accepting the marriage proposal,” the girl, who lost her father at an early age, alleged.

The chairman also threatened her with dire consequences if she takes part in the ongoing SSC examination, she claimed.

“We are passing very fearful days as the chairman’s men can attack us at any moment and I feel insecurity on the way to my exam hall,” she said.

“I have visited the area and talked with the victim,” said Md. Shakhawat Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Nalchity Police Station adding that they will take proper action if any written complaint is filed with police.

Ranapasha Union Chairman Masudur Rahman Salam could not be reached for his comments as he did not receive any phone calls.
