‘Drug peddler’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Detective Branch (DB) of police in Mymensingh Sadar upazila early today.
Deceased Bacchu alias Bhebel Bacchu was accused in 15 drug-related cases, said Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of district DB police.
Being informed that a gang of drug traders gathered in Shambuganj area around 2:45am for sharing money of drug business, a team of detectives conducted the drive there, said the OC.
Sensing presence of police, the drug traders hurled brick chips on them and later opened fire, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, triggering the “gunfight”.
The “gunfight” left Bacchu bullet injured. He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered 200 Yaba tablets and four bullet shells from the spot, the OC added.
Two policemen were also injured during the “gunfight”, the OC said.
