Punishment of culprits sought over Tripura girl rape, murder
Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Union unit of Chittagong University (CU) today demanded capital punishment for the culprits behind the rape and murder of a Tripura girl on Saturday.
Kritika Tripura Purna, 10, a class 5 student of Noimail Government Primary School, was raped and later killed on July 28 in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari.
The activists of the student organisation brought out a procession in this regard in front of Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) building in the afternoon and ended it at the university's Central Shaheed Minar followed by a protest rally.
Drishon Pradip Chakma, president of CU Chhatra Union, said violence against women in many areas of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) is nothing new.
He further mentioned that incidents of killing and rape in the CHT are being carried out as part of ethnic persecution of the indigenous communities.
He urged the authorities concerned to solve this issue immediately or else he feared that this type of persecution will continue to exist in the region.
