Turkey will award scholarships to seven Bangladeshi students every year in Postgraduate Doctorate Studies (PhD) programme on textile engineering education, according to a UGC release.

In this regards, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), Turkey here today.

UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan and CoHE president Professor Dr M A Yekta Sarac signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.

The main objective of the MoU is to exchange academic and scientific programmes of the higher education institutions between Bangladesh and Turkey.

"The MoU would play a pivotal role in quality development of higher education of the country," said UGC Chairman.

"Side by side, it (the MoU) would also help to strengthen the relation between the two friendly countries," he said, adding that the mutual cooperation is very much necessary for developing the quality of higher education in Bangladesh under the era of globalisation.

Terming the MoU as a big step for internationalisation of higher education, CoHE president said the MoU between Bangladesh and Turkey would introduce a 'new-horizon' for quality development of the higher education.

Turkey is the second most top among the European countries where nearly 7.3 million foreign students are staying for higher education.
