2 'drug peddlers' killed in Cox's Bazar 'gunfight'

Two alleged drug peddlers were killed in a "gunfight" with joint forces, comprising Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Cox's Bazar early today.

The deceased are Enamul Haque, 33, and Forhad Hossain Arif, 32, confirmed Ramu Police Station's Inspector (Investigation) Mizanur Rahman.

Confirming the incident to the journalists Company Commander Major Mehedi Hassan of Rab-7 camp in Cox's Bazar said, "The incident took place near a Rab-BGB checkpost in Himchori area on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road around 4:00am.”

The two were heading towards Cox's Bazar in a white car, when the law enforcers signaled them to stop for checking. When the law enforcers got close to the vehicle, the alleged drug peddlers started shooting at them forcing the lawmen to retaliate, ensuing a ten-minute “gunfight”, he added.

At one point, the shooting from the car stopped and Rab found the duo injured with bullets inside the car.

The duo was rushed to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the doctor on duty declared them dead.

The bodies have been kept in Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The joint forces recovered huge amount of yaba pills, pistols, a rifle and bullets from the spot.
