2 held for murder of importer in Jashore
Detectives have arrested two teenagers for their alleged involvement in the murder of an importer in Jashore.
The arrestees were identified as Rana Mollah, 19, and Rakib, 19, of Shankarpur area of Jashore town, reports our Benapole correspondent.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested the duo from Shankarpur area last night in a case filed over the murder of Mohidul Islam Safa, 37, an importer who was stabbed to death on January 1.
Claiming that the arrestees were “contract killers”, DB Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman said at a press briefing today that the duo confessed to have committed the murder in exchange of Tk 2 lakh.
The arrestees were held after they were identified from CCTV video footage of the incident, he also said, adding that the murder weapon, a knife, was recovered from an abandoned area behind an election campaign office in the town.
Safa was stabbed to death on January 1 on Mujib Sarak near the Eidgah ground in Jashore town.
Jahidul Islam, brother of the deceased, filed a case with Jashore Kotwali Police Station on January 2 accusing unidentified criminals.
On January 4, the case was handed over to DB from Jashore Kotwali Police Station, OC Moniruzzaman said, adding that the investigation officer of the case SI Shamim and IT branch SI Mofizur Rahman identified the killers from CCTV video footage of the incident.
The video footage showed that two youths stabbed Safa, who was wearing a white and red shirt, in front of Masud Computer shop on the east side of the Eidgah ground and then ran away quickly.
