UNO hurt in drive against jatka fishing in Patuakhali

An Upazila Nirbahi Officer and two employees of the UNO’s office were hurt in an attack by miscreants when they were conducting a mobile court drive against catching jatka fish on the Tentulia river in Bauful upazila of Patuakhali.

The injured were identified as UNO Pijus Chandra Da, and two employees of his office Ashraf and Abdullah, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting the UNO.

A mobile court led by the UNO went to Tentulia river on a trawler around 7:30pm yesterday and seized some current nets. The current nets were seized after the fishermen fled the spot sensing the presence of the mobile court, Pijush Chandra Da was quoted as saying.

The UNO and his employees came under attack by a group of around fifty men as they were returning from the drive. The attackers threw brick bats on the mobile court team and police had to fire point-blank shots to bring the situation under control.

The UNO was given primary treatment.

Contacted, Khondakar Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Baufal Police Station said no case was filed in this connection yet.
