UPZ polls: 13 chairman aspirants set to be elected uncontested

Twenty-five aspirants for chairman posts, vice-chairman and vice-chairman posts reserved for women are set to be elected uncontested in the second phase of election to 124 upazila parishads slated for March 18.

Of them, 13 candidates for chairman, five for vice-chairman and six those reserved women vice-chairman posts are lone candidates in their respective upazilas, Ashfaqur Rahman, assistant secretary (election management) of Election Commission, told reporters.

A total of 1, 626 candidates including 483 for chairman post, 676 for vice-chairman one and 467 for reserved women posts submitted their nomination papers yesterday, the last date for filing nomination papers.
