Photo ID must for domestic air travel: Caab
Passengers will have to show valid photo identity card while travelling in domestic routes by air, according to new instruction of Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (Caab).
Caab came up with the instruction today to beef up overall security of the airports and airlines following an alleged attempt to hijack a Biman flight at Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday.
The passengers will have to enclose valid passport, national ID, smart card, driving license, student ID or official ID of the respective office with their tickets mandatorily, Caab said in a press release.
It also called up the passengers to comply with the instruction in keeping the photo ID under their possessions while travelling in the domestic routes by air.
Otherwise, the passengers will be denied of travailing opportunity by air, it said.
Earlier, the Civil Aviation authority sent letters to all airlines instructing them to mandatorily check valid photo ID cards of the passengers before issuing boarding cards but the instruction did not follow mandatorily.
A flight of the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines was allegedly attempted to hijack on Sunday evening at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport.
The plane made an emergency landing and all the 148 passengers on board were evacuated safely. All the cabin crew members were also safe. Later, the alleged hijacker was neutralised in a swift commando operation.
