Dhaka Wasa says water supplied to 57 areas polluted
Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) today submitted a report to the High Court saying that water supplied by Wasa to 57 areas of its 10 zones are polluted.
The areas are Jatrabari, Bashabo, Mugda, Rajarbagh, Kushumbagh, Jurain, Maniknagar, Manda, Dholaipar, Matuail, Bhagolpur, Lalbagh, Bakshibazar, Shahidnagar, Jhigatola, Dhanmondi, Shukrabad, Kalabagan, Bhooter Gali, Mohammadpur, Shewrapara, Pirerbagh, Monipur, Paikpara, Kazipara, Mirpur, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Shiddeshwari, Shahjahanpur, Khilgaon, Moghbazar, Noyatola, Rampura, Malibagh, Paribagh, Kadamtali, Dhoniya, Shyampur, Rasulbagh, Meradnagar, Patherbagh, Shanirakhra, Konapara, Muslimnagar, Badda, Aftabnagar, Bashundhara, Bhatara, Uttara, Khilkhet, Fayedabad, Mollartek, Rana Bhola, Kafrul, Kochukhet and Pallabi.
The Wasa has prepared the report based on allegations brought by the dwellers of the areas.
After receiving the report, the court asked Head of Dhaka University’s microbiology department Sabita Rezwana Rahman to appear before the court on May 21 for placing expert opinion on how the water of Dhaka Wasa can be tested in an easy way.
The High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam fixed May 21 for passing further order on this issue.
Earlier in the day, Deputy Attorney General Motaher Hossain Sazu placed a report of LGRD ministry to the High Court bench, which said that Tk 75.61 lakh is needed for collecting samples Dhaka Wasa and examining them.
