A court in Chattogram today framed charges against former lawmaker of Cox's Bazar-4 constituency Abdur Rahman Bodi in a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission in 2007.

By framing charges, trial in the case against Bodi has started formally. The court also fixed October 15 for recording of depositions in the case.

Chattogram District and Sessions Judge and also Divisional Special Judge (acting) Md Ismail Hossain framed the charges against Bodi around 12:00pm.

Court sources said, before framing the charges, they were read out in presence of Bodi in the courtroom. During the hearing, Bodi's lawyer claimed him to be innocent and requested the court to acquit him from the charges.

ACC's lawyer advocate Kazi Sanowar Hossain Lavlu told The Daily Star: "In investigation, ACC has found evidence against Bodi of accumulating wealth through unknown sources. We told this before the court during the hearing."

"The defense lawyer submitted a time petition before the court but the court rejected it and framed charges," added the lawyer.

"Bodi is now on bail in the case from the High Court," said Advocate Lavlu.

According to ACC sources, ACC filed the case against Bodi for hiding information of Tk 43, 43,994 and accumulating wealth of Tk 66.7 lakh from unknown sources of income in 2007 with Double Mooring Police Station of Chattogram.

In 2008, ACC had submitted charges sheet against Bodi after investigation. After the incident, Bodi moved to the High Court and succeeded in getting a stay order over the case. After a long time in 2017, the HC lifted the stay order from the case and then the case proceeding started again.
