Accused in abduction case: Convict arrested after 32 years on the run
Police have arrested a fugitive convict in an abduction case after 32 years from Joypurhat's Kalai upazila.
Fugitive Abdul Motin (60), from Itail village of the upazila, remained absconding for 32 years to avoid seven years imprisonment in an abduction case of a minor boy. Motin was arrested from Bogura yesterday, reports our Dinajpur correspondent quoting police.
Selim Malik, officer-in-charge of Kalai Police Station in Joypurhat said that acting on a tip-off, a police team arrested him from Jalshuka village of Shajahanpur upazila of Bogura district with the help of Bogura police.
Police sent Motin to Joypurhat jail after producing him before a local court this afternoon, he said.
According to police, a seven-year-old boy Md Monzurul Islam of Itail village was abducted on June 25 in 1989. Later, Monzurul's father Fazlul Haq filed a case accusing two people, Abdul Motin and Md Sakam Uddin, of the same village.
Sakam Uddin was arrested by police but Abdul Motin went into hiding since the case was filed. On December the same year, the court sentenced both of them to seven years imprisonment, said the OC, adding that Sakam Uddin was let go after seven years imprisonment from Joypurhat jail, but Abdul Motin remained traceless.
Abdul Motin has been running to escape the arrest since he heard the court sentenced him to seven years imprisonment. He said he never thought police would be able to arrest him after 32 years of the incident, said the OC.
