Driver, helper arrested for raping woman on moving truck on Dhaka-Sirajganj highway

A truck driver and his helper were arrested on charge of raping a 20-year-old woman on a moving truck on Dhaka-Sirajganj Highway last night.

Police rescued the victim and arrested driver Sohel Rana (32), helper Abdul Wahab (30) from Koddar intersection in the west zone of Bangabandhu bridge, reports our Pabna correspondent.

The victim, a resident of Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj, boarded a goods-laden truck at Chandra of Gazipur district yesterday afternoon for going to Chandaikona in Raiganj.

Md Mosaddek Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station, said the truck was carrying few more passengers, who got off in Elenga.

The driver and helper asked the woman to sit inside the vehicle and started towards Sirajganj.

Out of suspicion, passengers, who got off in Elenga, called 999 and informed of the incident.

Being informed, police tried to stop the truck at the west zone of Bangabandhu Bridge but the truck managed to speed away.

Later, police put barricade in Koddar area and stopped the truck at night, the OC said.

A Sirajganj court later sent the driver and helper to jail, the OC said.

The victim was taken to Sirajganj General Hospital in the morning, the OC said.

Quoting the victim, the OC said the truck driver raped her on the moving truck while the helper assisted him.

Victim's father filed a case with Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone police station, accusing the driver and helper.
