Madrasa teacher detained for raping 8-year-old boy in Dhaka's Hazaribagh

Police detained a madrasa teacher on charge of raping an eight-year-old boy in Dhaka's Hazaribagh area last night.

The child was admitted to the One Stop Crisis (OCC) centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment and forensic test.

The accused rapist Zubair Hossain (22), teacher of a madrasa in Jhauchar area, is now in police custody. Filing of a case against him is underway.

The child's father said they live in a slum near the madrasa where his son used to study.

Although the madrasa has been closed during the pandemic, the teacher used to give lessons in the evening.

"My son went there with some other students in the evening and returned home at night. He did not tell us anything but around 11:30pm, he complained of pain. His mother then saw bleeding," he said.

After hearing the incident from him, the family informed police who picked up Zubair from the madrasa early today.

Sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman of Hazaribagh Police Station said they detained Zubair after the child's family complained that he raped the boy.

Victim's father is busy with the child's treatment. Because of this a lawsuit is pending, he said.
