Man arrested for hacking Facebook accounts, swindling money from victims
Detectives arrested a man on charge of hacking Facebook accounts through sending phishing links to victims and swindling money from them.
A team of detectives arrested Mamun Mia during a raid in Sunamganj yesterday, AKM Hafiz Akhtar, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press briefing at DMP media centre today.
Women, especially expats, were his targets, the DB official said.
He used to create phishing links and sent those to targets via Facebook messenger. When a person opens the link, he/she sees the Facebook login page immediately.
Once logging in, using username and password, Mamun gets access to their username and password. Later, he changes the password and thus hacks a Facebook account, the DB official said.
Mamun later demanded money from the victims for returning access to their accounts, he said, adding that he was arrested earlier for the same offence.
The DB official urged all not to click on any suspicious link without verification.
