A man was shot dead in Bandarban's remote Rowangchhari upazila today, said Bandarban police.

The victim was identified as Omar Faruq, 65, an imam of a local mosque, said Jerin Akther, superintendent of Bandarban district police.

"The imam was shot dead while he was going to the mosque around 9:10pm," said the SP, adding that the victim may have been from the Tripura community who converted to Islam.

"The spot where the incident happened is far from Rowangchhari upazila headquarters," said the SP. "It will take time to know the details of the murder due to the remote location."
