Youth sedated, raped two teenage cousins in Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria upazila
A youth sedated two teenagers and raped them in Cox's Bazar Chakaria upazila when their family members were not home on Tuesday.
The victims are cousins, aged 14 and 15, and class 8 and 9 students of a local school.
They were sent to the district Sadar Hospital after a victim's father filed a case with Chakaria Police Station yesterday.
The accused rapist Abu Hasan Mohammad Ibrahim (25), a neighbour of the victims, has gone into hiding. Police are trying to arrest him, Shaker Mohammad Zubair, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station, told our local correspondent.
According to the case statement, one of the girls took her cousin to their house on Tuesday as her family members went to visit relatives in another village.
At night, Hasan went to the house and deceived them into taking sleeping pills. As they fell unconscious, he raped the girls, the case statement added.
The family members were supposedly in a dilemma over whether they would go for legal action or mediate it through social arbitration, and hence delayed in filing the case, police said quoting the victims' families.
Shaheen Md Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, resident medical officer of the Sadar Hospital, said the girls are being treated at the one-stop crisis centre of the hospital.
