‘Eken Babu’ writer Sujan Dasgupta found dead under mysterious circumstances

Earlier today, on January 18, the prominent Kolkata based writer Sujan Dasgupta was found dead in his South Kolkata house.

He was reportedly found lying on the floor of his bedroom, according to the police. 

The creator of the Eken Babu series, first published by Anandamela in 1991, lived in the USA, and had come to Kolkata for the premiere of his movie. Eken Babu recently gained much popularity after being adapted into OTT web series and films. 

At the time of the incident, there was no one in his house. The author's wife had gone on a visit to Shantiniketan and his daughter lives in America. On Wednesday morning, the writer's house help came to the house. Upon finding no response, the woman called the security guards, who also failed to open the door. Eventually, Dasgupta's brother-in-law reached the spot and informed the police. 

Finally, at around 10 am, the door was broken into and the body of the writer was recovered. According to the police, there were no injury marks on his body. His body was sent for post-mortem. 

It has been reported that the author had been suffering from some health concerns. As of now, no unusual reason has been found behind his death. 

Sujan Dasgupta had written several books besides the Eken Babu series: Manhattan-e Manhunt (Ananda Publishers, 1993), Shantiniketan-e Oshanti (Dasgupta-Alliance), among others.

The author was 80 at the time of his death.
