DGHS director (hospital) being transferred
After Prof Abul Kalam Azad stepped down as director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) yesterday, its Director (Hospital) Aminul Hasan is now being removed from the post amid severe criticism over Covid-19 tests.
"Let's see, steps may be taken to replace him," Abdul Mannan, secretary of Health Services Division, told The Daily Star this afternoon.
Meanwhile, sources at the ministry and DGHS said the process of Aminul's transfer has already been initiated.
The development came when the DGHS has been at the centre of criticism following allegations of scams in Covid-19 testing, including that of JKG Health Care that collected samples for Covid-19 from people's homes in exchange for money, despite having no trade licence or the permission to do so.
Besides, the DGHS signed a memorandum of understanding to treat Covid-19 patients with infamous Regent Hospital, which has not renewed its licence after 2014 and issued nearly 6,000 fake Covid-19 test reports without testing.
The JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ariful Islam Chowdhury and Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed are now behind bars for their crimes.
