Bodyguard of Gulshan café attack bomb supplier held
Police today claimed to have arrested the bodyguard of Sohel Mahfuz, an explosives expert and bomb supplier for last year's Gulshan café attack, in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj.
Shamim Prokash alias Abdullah alias Abdur Rahim, 27, son of Mahtabuddin of Nimtala-Kanthal village, was arrested with firearms in Boalmari Beel area, our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports.
Shamim was bodyguard of Sohel, who was arrested in Shibgang upazila on July 1, and accused in five criminal cases including murder, said Mahbub Alam Khan, additional superintendent of police in the district.
Sohel supplied bombs to Gulshan Holey Artisan the attackers, according to investigators.
Acting on tip-off, police arrested Shamim and recovered a pistol, two magazines and eight bullets from his possession, the police official told our local correspondent.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, two other members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) fled the scene, he said.
Shamim during primary interrogation, Shamim admitted that he was an aide and bodyguard of Sohel, he added.
