Dr Rokon, Maj Jahid financed Dhaka cafe attack: DMP

Rokonuddin Khondoker, who fled with family to Syria, and Major (retd) Jahidul Islam and Tanvir Kaderi killed in Rupnagar and Azimpur raids donated to Neo JMB that carried out the Holey Artisan attack.

In reply to a question by journalists whether the financers of the Gulshan attack were identified, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit Chief Monirul Islam came up with the remarks.

He was addressing a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police media centre today.

Rokonuddin, a pediatrician of Dhaka Shishu Hospital donated Tk 80 lakh to Neo JMB.

On the other hand, military commander of Neo JMB Major (retd) Jahid gave all his retirement money and savings to the outfit, Monirul said.

Tanvir Kaderi, who was killed during a raid in Azimpur, donated all the money he got from selling his apartment in Uttara and also gave his savings to the outfit.

The outfit may also have other financers from abroad. Investigation is on, Monirul said.

Neo JMB, as called by law enforcers, is now inspired by the ideology of Islamic State, skilled in modern technology and equipped with sophisticated firearms.
