Terrorism: No official move yet for seeking intl' help

Bangladesh is yet to move a formal proposal or request to seek assistance from the global community in support of the investigation into the July 1 terrorist attack on a Dhaka cafe.
A highly placed diplomatic source told The Daily Star there is no such move in the making as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government believes that such mechanism is possible in the existing cooperation Bangladesh has with the international community.
"We share intelligence information and get support in investigations in major events, so we will continue to get such assistance from friendly countries. We also have mechanism under SAARC and United Nations and we are closely working with other countries, regional organisations and the UN to fight this common challenge", the source said.
Asked whether the Bangladesh government sought any assistance from the neighbouring country, an Indian diplomat in Dhaka told The Daily Star he did not have any information in this regard.
However, he said,"We have institutional arrangements in place to discuss all security related matters."
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at a diplomatic briefing in Dhaka on Tuesday expressed hope that the global community would support Bangladesh in fighting terrorism.
That day, a western diplomat who attended the foreign minister's briefing, said all embassies had vouched for a high standard probe into the July 1 terrorist attack and help Bangladesh to avert any similar threats in the future.
On the same day, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal also said Dhaka will seek support from neighbouring and friendly counties to curb terrorim in Bangladesh after July 1 attack.
