DU student rape: 3 more prosecution witnesses testify
Three more prosecution witnesses, including a Dhaka University (DU) teacher, today gave their depositions before a Dhaka tribunal in connection with the case filed over the rape of a DU student in the capital's Kurmitola this year.
The two other witnesses are the victim's friends who also gave their depositions before the tribunal.
Judge Begum Mosammat Quamrunnahar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 of Dhaka recorded the statements.
The witnesses were cross-examined by defence lawyer on behalf of the accused.
Court sources said all three witnesses narrated how they learned of the incident and later took initiative for the victim's treatment.
The witnesses also demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.
The tribunal then fixed September 24 for next hearing on the case.
Earlier, the victim and her father gave their statements before the same tribunal.
During today's hearing, the lone accused -- Majnu -- was produced before the tribunal.
On January 5, the DU student was raped while she was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a friend's house near Shewra Rail gate in the capital around 7:30pm after getting off a university bus.
The next day, the victim's father filed the case with Cantonment Police Station.
On January 8, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested 30-year-old Majnu from Shewra area in the capital.
