DNCC launches combing operation to destroy Aedes breeding grounds
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today launched combing operation at different parts including Baridhara area of the capital to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.
DNCC Mayor MdAtiqul Islam and Local Government and Rural Development Minister Tajul Islam jointly inspected the combing operation to make the efforts successful.
Several mobile courts of the DNCC conducted drives in Baridhara, Uttara, Mirpur-2, Mirpur-10, Mohakhali, Karwan Bazar and Bhatara areas as part of the initiative to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.
During the drive, executive magistrates of the DNCC filed around seven cases and realisedTk 1.1 lakh as fines for having Aedes larvae in houses, establishments and under-construction buildings.
While inspecting the drive at Baridhara, Minister Tajul Islam ordered the concerned authority to take tough legal actions against those responsible for breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.
"It is a matter of great regret that owners of under-construction buildings are not paying heed to our call for destroying the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes. They are putting people's lives at risk," he said.
At the same time while talking to reporters, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said earlier he had called upon owners of houses and under-construction buildings to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, but all in vain.
The DNCC mayor again called upon city dwellers to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes to save everyone from dengue risks.
Later in an inter-ministerial review meeting on curbing dengue, held at the auditorium of the department of local government, LGRD Minister Tajul Islam said punitive action including jail term and fine will be enforced if Aedes larvae are found in any public or private building.
Claiming that 95 percent of Aedes mosquitoes are born inside houses or offices, the minister said, "We have to force people to comply with rules in eliminating Aedes mosquitoes."
