A domestic worker sustained critical injury on her throat at her employer's house in Dhaka's Naya Paltan area this morning.

Kulsum Akater, 16, is now receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Hailing from Raipur upazila in Lakshmipur, Kulsum was employed at the house of Ferdousi Akter and Aminul Islam more than two years ago.

Ferdousi said Kulsum prepared breakfast and served it to Aminul who headed out for Feni, on business, early this morning.

The family members as well as Kulsum later went to their respective rooms, she claimed.

"At around 9:30am, my daughter-in-law went to the kitchen and saw Kulsum lying in a pool of blood. We did not know how this happened," Ferdousi claimed.

Ferdousi and other family members took her to hospital in an ambulance.

A doctor at the hospital said her condition is very critical with deep cut in her trachea (windpipe).

"We sewed it and set a tube in the throat to facilitate breathing," he said, preferring to be unnamed.

Police is investigating the incident, said Inspector Bachuchu Mia, in-charge of police outpost at the hospital.
