Public transport will be operated during Eid: Obaidul Quader
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said all public transport would be operated during the Eid-ul-Azha vacation.
However, goods-laden vehicles -- except those used for emergency services, transporting medicines, cattle and garment products -- would remain off the roads from three days ahead of Eid, he said.
Quader said this through a video message. "I want clarify that public transport would be operated during Eid vacation," he said.
He urged all to follow the health safety guidelines properly or the Eid journey may turn into nightmare, because health experts have already warned of high risk of Covid-19 transmission if the guidelines are not followed.
Confusion over operation of public transport during Eid vacation arose yesterday after State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury told a meeting that public transport would remain suspended for nine days -- before and after Eid.
But, he later changed his position and said movement of vehicles carrying goods will remain suspended for "nine days" before and after Eid but public transport will be available during this period.
