Coke Studio Bangla: Shuvendu Das and Fairooz Nazifa pay mellifluous homage to Lucky Akhand
Paying tribute to the legendary musician Lucky Akhand, Coke Studio Bangla dropped its new song "Ghum Ghum", featuring talented singer Fairooz Nazifa.
The song has been produced by Shuvendu Das Shuvo and S M Hedayet penned the lyrics, based on the original composition of Lucky Akhand. The original track was voiced by another legendary singer, Shahnaz Rahmatullah.
"Ghum Ghum" was first featured in the 80's popular film "Ghuddi". After her return from Pakistan, it was Shahnaz Rahmatullah's first song. The popular movie represented the ideas of youth and freedom of a newly independent Bangladesh and the song invoked that same feeling of free spirits and joy.
Coke Studio Bangla's attempt to give this timeless song a unique makeover sees jazz fused with Bangla music. The masterpiece by Lucky Akhand infused the melody with a delightful fusion of nostalgia.
Being featured on Coke Studio Bangla, Fairooz Nazifa shared, "It's an amazing feeling to be part of the Coke Studio Bangla family and to be able to perform on this platform. When it was decided that we were going to cover one of the masterpieces of Bangla music industry, created by legendary musicians like Lucky Akhand and Shahnaz Rahmatullah, I was beyond excited and tried my level best to do justice to this song. I hope everyone enjoys this rendition."
According to Shuvendu Das Shuvo, working on any iconic song is always challenging, and one that musicians always enjoy. "We had a number of genres planned for this season and jazz was one that I was eager to present to the audience," he shared.
