Ferdausi Rahman, Syed Abdul Hadi to receive ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’
Ekushey Padak-winning singers Ferdausi Rahman and Syed Abdul Hadi will be awarded the "Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal" on July 27.
Popular musician Shafin Ahmed, the son of Feroza Begum, confirmed that two of the country's most renowned artists would be receiving the award that bears the name of his mother.
The "Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal Award" is organised by Dhaka University, and the award-giving ceremony will be held at the university's Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. The awards will be handed over by vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman.
Legendary singer Feroza Begum was born to an aristocratic Muslim family in the Faridpur district. Through her unique presentation style and vocal range, she emerged as the most prominent Nazrul Sangeet singer in the subcontinent and is to date an icon for the many generations that followed her into the world of Bangla music. Feroza Begum died on September 9, 2014, after suffering from heart and kidney-related issues.
