I fought alone for him since 2003: Hanif Sanket on Akbar’s demise

Popular anchor Hanif Sanket wrote a heartfelt status on his Facebook account, after the tragic demise of Singer Akbar Ali Gazi yesterday, who rose to fame with the song "Tomar Haat Pakhar Batashe" at the programme "Ityadi", hosted by Hanif Sanket. He used to be a rickshaw puller in the town of Jashore before that.

"Akbar's wife suddenly called me this afternoon and was crying and telling me that Akbar had passed, leaving her alone. I was shooting for 'Ityadi' in Rangpur, when I got the call. As soon as I got the call, I realized that Akbar is no more because of his deteriorating physical condition. I was checking in with the doctors regularly in the past few weeks. However, we didn't leave any stone unturned in Akbar's treatment until the last days of his life—that's a consolation for us," his status reads.

In his status, he further stated he is grateful that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had arranged treatment for Akbar at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and also provided financial assistance.

"At that time, many people helped financially. The musical journey of Akbar was not easy. Since 2003, I have been fighting alone for him. He might not have sung a lot of songs, but people will remember him for his few songs which touched their heart," Hanif wrote.
