Renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen has been admitted to hospital with severe respiratory distress.
Her husband, instrumentalist Gazi Abdul Hakim, told the daily Prothom Alo that she was taken to the hospital early this morning and is now in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Gazi Abdul Hakim stated that fluid has accumulated in her lungs, along with several other complications.
Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, the Managing Director of Universal Medical College, provided an update on her condition. He said, "She was admitted at dawn due to acute respiratory distress. After necessary tests, she was placed in the ICU. Her lungs are affected, and she also suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid issues, and age-related complications. She is currently under the care of specialists in respiratory diseases, nephrology, and critical care. Her condition is somewhat complex, and we have recommended dialysis. Let's see how things progress."
Farida Parveen began her musical career in 1968 as a listed Nazrul Sangeet singer for Rajshahi Radio. She gained popularity in the early 1970s for her patriotic songs and later trained in Lalon music under the guidance of spiritual guru Moksed Ali Shah.
In recognition of her contributions to music, she was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1987. In 2008, she received the ''Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize'' from the Japanese government. Additionally, in 1993, she won the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer.
To promote Lalon music among children, she established a music school named Achin Pakhi School.
