Musicologist Sanjida Khatun honoured with 2021 Padma Shri
Eminent Bangladeshi musicologist and Rabindra Sangeet exponent Sanjida Khatun was presented with India's fourth highest civilian award, the Padma Shri, in Dhaka today.
The award was presented to Khatun by Indian High Commissioner to India Vikram K Doraiswami. She was chosen for the honour in 2021 for her contributions to the field of arts.
Her health had prevented her from traveling to New Delhi in November last year to receive the prestigious award in person at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Khatun is one of the principal founders of Bangladesh Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Sangstha during thye Liberation War of 1971 and cultural group Chhayyanaut in early 1960's. It was under her tutelage that Chhayanaut has grown into a world-renowned institute promoting classical music and dance.
Doraiswami also felicitated Sanjida Khatun with a token of appreciation which was presented to Padma awardees of 2020 and 2021 on the occasion of Maitri Diwas India and Bangladesh celebrate every year on December 6.
