Selena Gomez’s tearful video on immigration crackdown goes viral
Singer and actor Selena Gomez was brought to tears following US President Donald Trump's decision to deport undocumented immigrants from the country. The emotional moment, which she shared on Instagram Stories and later deleted, highlighted her distress over the situation.
In the video, Selena, dressed in a black outfit and appearing to be at home, addressed her followers. A clip of the video was later shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @SELENAT0RSARMY.
Through tears, she expressed, "I'm so sorry. My people are being attacked—especially the children. I don't understand. I wish I could do something, but I feel helpless. I'll try my best, I promise."
She also shared the text "I'm sorry" along with a Mexican flag emoji on her Instagram Stories. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, drew significant criticism from the public.
One individual commented, "There are legal channels to enter the United States. Why don't they follow those instead?"
Another user remarked, "It's 2025, and we're still pulling out our phones to record ourselves crying?" However, some showed empathy toward her reaction.
"Those mocking her are awful. Keep in mind that her community, including children, is facing deportation. She has every right to feel emotional. She's the daughter of Mexican immigrants and has worked hard to get where she is. We love you, Selena," one person wrote.
Another fan also added, "This is truly heartbreaking. Can't she express her feelings in peace? Imagine being a celebrated artiste and feeling helpless to support your community—it must be crushing for her."
Later, Selena posted a note on her Instagram Stories stating, "Apparently, it's not acceptable to show compassion for others." However, she later took it down.
Back in 2019, Selena had produced a Netflix documentary titled "Living Undocumented", which explored the struggles of eight undocumented immigrant families living in the United States under the Trump administration.
The current US president has pledged to initiate the largest deportation campaign in the nation's history. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum recently addressed the matter, noting that approximately 4,000 deported migrants were sent back to Mexico during Trump's first week back in office, which she described as "not a significant increase" compared to normal rates.
According to official statistics, over 190,000 individuals were deported to Mexico from January to November 2024, averaging around 17,200 deportations per month.
Since his return to office just a week ago, thousands of migrants have been deported to Central and South America. However, the majority of these deportations were carried out under agreements that had been established prior to his reinstatement.
