The song is a remixed take on the popular Bangla folk song "Shundori Komola". The song features both Hindi and Bengali verses, leaving netizens criticising the song heavily.

While a lot of Indian fans of the song responded positively to the 'rendition', commenting on the actress's outlook and the sweetness of the Bengali language, Bangladeshi audiences were left feeling a bit perplexed.

One of the users wrote, "You have successfully destroyed another Bengali folk song", followed by "T-Series should mention that this is a traditional Bengali song from Sylhet, Bangladesh, which they have successfully destroyed." In the T-Series song "Dotara", credits for the Bengali lyrics couldn't be found anywhere.

Previously, a similar outrage rose among Bengalis when artiste Badshah adopted the Bengali folk song "Genda Phool" which is written by Folk artiste Ratan Kahar. Ratan had still not been credited for the Bengali parts of the song that Badshah had used in his song, inciting a discourse on plagiarism, royalties and copyright.
