Elita looks to highlight the youth with exciting new webcast
The usual artsy vibe of the EMK Center was complemented by youthful jubilance, as the welcoming face of a renowned singer and journalist awaited young changemakers in her new webcast, "The Youth Unleashed with Elita Karim".
In association with EMK Center, and sponsored by the US Embassy, the ten-episode show will feature ten young changemakers from different professional sectors as guests. Planned, designed and scripted by Elita herself, the entire programme has been supported by Jaago Foundation, a partner to EMK Center.
"We have read their stories many times in the newspaper, sometimes on social platforms. However, through this show, their entire story will unfold in front of the viewer like never before. I believe it is important to create an avenue for their visual recognition as well," shared Elita, who had been nurturing this idea from a long time.
"One of my guests on my show is Tawhida Shiropa, who left her journalism career and built her own platform for mental-health and well-being support. The founder and CEO of the platform had this urge of creating such a platform because of her mother, who was suffering for a long time -- and they could not identify her health issue." Elita wants to bring forth such unheard stories, which might inspire more people and initiate to become one.
Since she was the Editor of Star Youth at The Daily Star, she had a rough plan to start her own podcast. However, she became set in her goals while completing her Fulbright Scholarship as a Humphrey Fellow 2021-2022, in the USA, for 15 months. "We had worked on various dimensions of media, out of which I was most interested in podcasts and webcasts," she added. "Essentially, the difference is miniscule between podcasts and webcasts. Podcasts are just audio shows, there are no visuals to those contents -- be it news, or a crime thriller story, people would listen to it at their own leisure."
The ten participants to tell their journey of becoming a changemaker includes Ayman Sadiq (10-minute school), Tawhida Shiropa (Moner Bondhu), Shah Rafayat Chowdhury (Footsteps), Sadia Jafrin Khan (Grow Your Reader), Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy (Unmad and Cartoon People), Arian Arif (Mojar Ishkool), Diptha Saha (Agroshift), Shamsin Ahmed (Identity Inclusion), Shitom Ahmed (Musician), and Kaarina Kaiser (Content Creator).
The webcast will begin airing from the first week of August. Throughout ten weeks, each episode will be released, and will be available on all the social platforms of EMK Center.
What about her musical journey? Upon being asked, Elita shared that she is waiting for a bunch of projects to be released. "I did one song in a mixed album with Joy Shahriar. I also lent voice to one of Bappa da's (Bappa Mazumder) ventures titled Beautiful Voices, where female vocalists including the likes of Kona, Konal, Ankhi apa (Ankhi Alamgir), lent their voices." The song has already been recorded, the music video will be shot soon. The song will be released from Bappa Mazumder's YouTube channel. "I have also recorded a song composed by Kishore Das, while I was in the US. The lyrics have been penned by Kabir Bakul, the song is supposed to be a film track, so I am waiting for it." She also did multiple songs with musician Shaker Raza.
Elita is also collaborating with Shitom Ahmed very soon. "We are planning for a duet, Shitom is quite popular at spotify, and doing really well." The song is expected to be released next month.
