Amitabh Reza applies for government grant again
"Aynabaji'' famed filmmaker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury recently returned a government grant received for the film based on celebrated writer Humayun Ahmed's novel "Pencile Aka Pori", due to conflicts with the family of the late author.
The director has now applied for a grant for the new film titled, "1969", as confirmed by the director himself to The Daily Star. "The plot is based on a true event from the mass uprising in 1969," shares Amitabh.
"The new generation needs to know the actual history of the country, that was built with so many hardships and sacrifices." He also informed that the script has been written by Rafiqul Islam Poltu, Apurba Jahangir, and Amitabh himself.
About "Pencile Aka Pori", the director stated that the family of Humayun Ahmed had expectations that he could not fulfil. "From their side, it is absolutely understandable that they wanted to add value to the film. However, I was unable to meet the expectations. I have already returned the money to the government with a fine."
"1969" is dedicated to Bangladesh's golden jubilee of independence, according to Amitabh.
