Angelina Jolie returns to screen as iconic opera singer Maria
Finally, the wait is over. Angelina Jolie's first glimpse as famed opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larrain's movie "Maria" has been released.
"Maria" will chronicle the tumultuous, beautiful, and tragic narrative of the world's finest female opera singer. The film will focus on her final days in the 1970s in Paris.
Jolie's outfits are inspired by authentic Callas ensembles, including antique fur items from Massimo Cantini Parrini's archives collection, on which they collaborated with PETA to avoid using new fur. Meanwhile, "Maria" is produced by Juan de Dios Larran of Fabula, Jonas Dornbach of Komplizen Film, and Lorenzo Mieli. FilmNation Entertainment will handle worldwide distribution.
Apart from Jolie, the cast also includes Pierfrancesco Favino (Adagio, The Hummingbird), Alba Rohrwacher (La Chimaera, Hungry Hearts), Haluk Bilginer (Winter Sleep), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog, Elvis), and Valeria Golino (Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Caos Calmo) are also amongst the cast members.
Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) wrote the script, which was finished prior to the WGA strike.
Angelina Jolie revealed to Vogue Magazine that she decided to sign fewer projects after 2016 in order to devote more time to her 'healing' journey. The Maleficent star has stated that she hasn't felt like herself in over a decade.
Jolie filed for divorce from her ex-husband Brad Pitt in September 2016, following an alleged violent altercation on a plane.
