Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie settle their divorce after eight years
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finalised their divorce, according to Jolie's lawyer on Monday, marking the conclusion of one of Hollywood's most prolonged and contentious divorce battles.
Jolie's lawyer, James Simon, confirmed to The Associated Press that the couple had reached an agreement.
People magazine was the first to report the news.
In a statement, Simon noted that Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt over eight years ago. He explained that she and the children left the properties they once shared with Pitt, and since then, Jolie has been focused on bringing peace and healing to their family.
Simon further emphasised that this settlement is just one step in a lengthy process that began eight years ago. Although the divorce settlement is complete, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are still involved in a legal battle over the Chateau Miraval vineyard in France. Pitt has alleged that Jolie sold her share of the winery to the Stoli Group without his approval.
According to the Daily Mail, both Jolie and Pitt have indicated they are open to resolving the issue through mediation or pursuing a jury trial.
A source familiar with the situation revealed that Jolie has been striving to find light after a difficult period.
"She doesn't criticise Pitt, either in public or private. The children have grown up witnessing how some people hold so much power and privilege that their voices seem unheard, and their pain feels overlooked."
The source added that their six children—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox—have encouraged Jolie to stand up for herself over the years. However, she consistently reminds them to prioritise advocating for legal change rather than sharing personal stories publicly.
Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, two years after marrying Pitt following a decade together.
Reports suggest that shortly before the filing, the family experienced a troubling incident in which Pitt was accused of physical abuse during a private flight.
Jolie and Pitt were officially declared single in 2019. Pitt, known for his role in "Bullet Train", has been in a relationship with Los Angeles jewelry designer Ines de Ramon for almost two years.
