Celebrity Cricket League halted amid player altercation
The thrilling Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) has hit a roadblock, with its third and final day suspended indefinitely. The league's organising committee announced this abrupt suspension during a press conference held on Saturday evening, citing a physical altercation between players from two opposing teams on Friday night.
The press conference, held at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium, left many fans wondering about the future of the CCL. The committee revealed that details regarding the resumption of the league would be disclosed at a later date.
Simultaneously, it was disclosed that legal action is in progress against the instigators following an investigation into the altercation between the teams captained by Dipankar Dipon and Mostafa Kamal Raz. Present at the press conference were representatives from the organising committee, and the abovementioned captains of the two rival teams.
Addressing the media, Dipankar Dipon expressed, "The unfortunate incident of the altercation does not represent our cultural society. None of our team members initiated the fight. About four or five individuals initiated the fight against us. We appeal to all not to label this as a 'celebrity league fight'. We urge you to carefully review each video clip before passing judgment. No one from our teams was involved in a fight. Some individuals wearing supporter jerseys initiated the altercation."
"One of my assistants, who was present as an audience member, was also assaulted. The identity of the assailants and their affiliation with any league team were later determined through video footage. This was not a case of a brawl but rather an attack by a group of 5-6 individuals, swiftly dealt with by both teams. We have identified these individuals and will take appropriate action against them."
The director also pointed out several areas of mismanagement during the event, including security issues, control over access to VIP areas, and the entry of unauthorized individuals.
Dipon emphasised, "While certain sectors are beyond our control, as representatives of the arts and entertainment media, we cannot condone physical confrontations. We have never promoted such behaviour and never will."
Mostafa Kamal Raz added, "I feel immense shame and regret over yesterday's unforeseen incident. I am disheartened by everyone, especially members of my own team, who were involved in this unfortunate event. The organising committee has identified and penalised those responsible for this chaos, and we hold no reservations about their decisions."
The star-studded 'Celebrity Cricket League', was aimed at boosting the morale of the Bangladesh cricket team ahead of the upcoming World Cup. However, what was meant to be a friendly match took an unexpected turn during a group match between filmmakers Mostafa Kamal Raz and Dipankar Dipon.
Actress Raj Ripa alleged that Mostafa Kamal Raz and actor Sariful Razz had physically assaulted her during the post-match.
The injured players were subsequently admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in the capital, highlighting the intensity of the clashes.
