‘Dawshom Awbotaar’ trailer out: A glimpse into Kolkata's intriguing murder mystery
Srijit Mukherji's highly-anticipated cop universe thriller, "Dawshom Awbotaar", has dropped its trailer today, promising to deliver an enthralling and mysterious cinematic experience to the audience.
Set against the backdrop of vibrant and enigmatic Kolkata, the trailer opens with a chilling scene that sets the tone for the much-anticipated film. The viewer is transported to a dimly lit staircase. A solitary figure slowly climbs the stairs, each step echoing ominously in the silence. The camera captures the suspense of the moment, building tension as we follow the ascent.
As the trailer unfolds, it transitions to a crime scene, where the camera pans over a lifeless body draped in a pool of blood, creating a stark contrast against the otherwise earthy tones of Kolkata.
The trailer introduces Prabir Das, portrayed by veteran actor Prosenjit Chatterjee. Das is seen once again on a relentless pursuit to solve a perplexing murder mystery, where a serial killer is leaving behind metaphorical clues that challenge both his intellect and resolve. Adding another layer of intrigue, Bijoy Poddar, portrayed by Anirban Bhattacharya, joins Prabir in the investigation.
A surprise element in the trailer is Jisshu Sengupta, whose character is shrouded in mystery and introduced by Jaya Ahsan. He is seen in a dimly lit room, referencing God and religious anecdotes. This enigmatic portrayal raises questions about his role in the unfolding drama and adds an intriguing layer to the narrative.
"Dawshom Awbotaar" is a prequel to two of Srijit's previous hits, "Baishe Srabon" and "Vinci Da", and brings together the two main characters, both cops, from the two films — Prabir Roy Chowdhury, played by Prosenjit Chatterjee in "Baishe Srabon"; and Bijoy Poddar, played by Anirban Bhattacharya, in "Vinci Da". This unexpected alliance between the two characters hints at the complexity of the case and promises dynamic on-screen chemistry between the actors.
Jisshu Sengupta and Jaya Ahsan are new faces in this cop universe, playing leads alongside Prosenjit and Anirban.
The trailer showcases a gripping narrative, combined with arresting visuals and Srijit Mukherji's signature directorial style. The film is likely to keep its viewers on the edge of their seats.
Moreover, in the trailer, while Prosenjit sports the iconic French-cut beard of Prabir Roy Chowdhury, Anirban's look bears resemblance to his character Khoka in "Dwitiyo Purush". His character Bijoy orders 'chicken chowmein and chilli fish' for lunch, fuelling speculation if "Dawshom Awbotaar" will have any bearing on the events of the 2020 thriller "Dwitiyo Purush", directed by Srijit.
The trailer has sparked a frenzy on social media, with fans and film enthusiasts dissecting every frame and clue, eager to piece together the puzzle that the spy thriller presents.
"Dawshom Awbotaar" is scheduled for release on October 19 in cinemas.
