‘Dear Satyajit’ to be screened at two international film festivals
In November last year, the tribute film "Dear Satyajit" had its world premiere at Canada's Vancouver International Film Festival. It was then screened in Brazil, Portugal, Italy's Florence, India's Kerala, Jaipur, and Delhi.
The film received multiple honours and awards. It is now set to be screened at the Toronto Multicultural Film Festival and the South Asian Film Festival in Chicago on September 21 and 23, respectively.
Directed by Proshoon Rahmaan, "Dear Satyajit" will be the concluding film of the Toronto festival, which will be screened at the Scarborough Audioplex on September 21 at 8:45 pm (local time).
While in Chicago, it will also be shown on the festival's closing day, September 23, at 3 pm (local time), at the city's Showplace Icon Theater. Residents of Toronto and Chicago are invited to witness the screenings.
Celebrating the birth centenary of Satyajit Ray, "Dear Satyajit" is a homage to the most significant and esteemed filmmaker in the subcontinent.
The film explores the life of this filmmaker and his legacy. It portrays the ideology and perspective of the next generation of filmmakers who follow the footsteps of Ray. It features Ahmed Rubel and Moutushi Biswas.
"Dear Satyajit" had its first screening at the Dhaka Lit Fest in January. It also had a special screening on May 2, on the occasion of Satyajit Ray's birthday, as an official tribute to his birth centenary. The official theatrical release date of the film is yet to be announced.
