Dhaka District Administration grant Sujata a house
Today, the Dhaka District Administration handed over a deed to a house (assigned property) along with a plot of land in Mouza, Wari to Sujata Azim, upon revaluating her application. The property and the land were handed over on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Mominur Rahman.
For a long time, noted actor Sujata Azim was staying at a rented house in Banasree. The legendary actor, who has worked in numerous classics including "Chutir Ghonta", "Alor Michil", "Lalon Fokir", "Alor Pipasha", "Ghazi Kalu" and "Agun Niye Khela", was facing severe financial crisis at a late age.
She applied to the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka regarding a permanent residence. Later, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman ordered for a house to be found for Sujata's accommodation. The administration recovered the property No. 43, 43/2, 43/3 of Wari's Lalchan Makim Lane, from the hands of squatters. Sujata was given the deed to the house, along with land for staying there.
At that time Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Shibli Sadiq, district administration officials, actress Sujata and journalists were present.
Actress Sujata expressed her heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Dhaka district administration in her emotional speech.
District Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said that the Dhaka district administration always works to ensure that distinguished artistes, who are financially unstable are given proper housing. Apart from this, the recovered private land or assigned property will be allotted to members of social, cultural, sports and public welfare-oriented organisations.
Sujata, one of the most recognised actresses of her generation in Bangladesh's film industry, had a five-decade acting career that began in the 1960s. Over the years, she has played a wide range of characters in over 300 films. She also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 42nd National Film Awards, for her outstanding contributions to the film industry. Apart from this, she was awarded Ekushey Padak, the second highest civilian award, in 2021 for her contributions to the film industry and the arts.
