Did you know 'Jawan' actress has Bangladeshi roots?

Having studied music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the United States, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya ventured into acting with small roles in "Feels Like Ishq" and "The Broken News". Now, she's all set for her big-screen debut alongside none other than Shahrukh Khan in the upcoming movie "Jawan".

But what sets her apart even more for us, is the recent revelation of her Bengali roots, according to an Indian media report.

Hailing from Delhi, she shared that her father is from Kolkata, while her mother comes from Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Despite living abroad, she grew up learning the Bengali language from her family, giving her a strong connection to her roots.

"I have several friends who are Bengalis but cannot speak Bangla at all. I am actually an expatriate Bengali. But my father is from Calcutta and my mother is from Mymensingh. So Bengali-Ghati combination is more Bengali in our house," Sanjeeta expressed, shedding light on her cultural blend.

Debuting on the silver screen alongside Shah Rukh Khan is a dream come true for Sanjeeta. Reflecting on this incredible opportunity, she shared, "To be honest, I still can't believe the whole thing."

"We have been working on 'Jawan' for almost two years. And the movie will be released in a few days. I'm slowly taking in all the excitement. I think, when I see myself on the big screen, I will realise that the dream has come true."

Commenting on her co-stars Shah Rukh Khan and Nayantara, Sanjeeta couldn't hide her excitement. "I am very lucky! Shahrukh sir is outstanding. His presence on the set means that we all get extra energy. Nayantara is also amazing."

"Reinventing myself every day, and working hard every day without any complaints - these are the lessons I owe to the sets of 'Jawan'," she continued.

Sanjeeta doesn't have any scenes with Deepika. But she shares the screen with Nayantara. "It is one of the biggest debts of my life," she stated.

Her journey to 'Jawan' was a twist of fate during the pandemic. Her first series 'Feels Like Ishq" was released on Netflix in July 2021. "A month after that, in August, I got a call to act in 'Jawan'," the actress revealed.

"During the Covid, I don't know how they found me. The series itself makes sense, because that's when I got the call. But I had to audition," she added.
