FDC Film directors’ election today amidst no festivity
The usual electoral fervour typically surrounding the Bangladesh Film Directors Association election is noticeably absent, with just a day remaining until election day (tomorrow).
The election was originally scheduled for December 28. However, just a day before the polls, the election commission postponed the voting for the 2025-26 term. A few days later, a new election date was hence announced, scheduled for January 10.
Assistant Election Commissioner AJ Rana confirmed the matter to The Daily Star, stating, "The voting for the 2025-26 term of the Directors' Association was supposed to take place on December 28. However, due to various reasons, it was postponed."
"The election will officially be held tomorrow. The decision was made last month following discussions with the election commissioner and representatives from both panels."
This year, candidates from the Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar-Shafi Uddin Shafi panel and the Shahin Shumon-Shahin Kabir Tutul panel are contesting against each other.
Abdul Latif Bachchu is presiding as the chief election commissioner, with AJ Rana and BH Nishan serving as assistant election commissioners.
