The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has extended the deadline for submitting full proposals for both feature-length and short films seeking government grants. Interested filmmakers and producers can now submit their proposals by April 22.

Previously, a circular issued in February had set the deadline for April 7, the final date for submission.

In a press release signed by Sharmin Akhter, Senior Assistant Secretary of the ministry, it was stated that the submission deadline for complete package proposals has been extended to 4 pm on April 22, keeping all terms and conditions from the previous circular unchanged.

Earlier, the ministry had invited proposals under 14 specific conditions from producers, directors, and individuals involved in the film industry.

According to the circular, in the fiscal year 2024-25, the government will provide grants to a maximum of 12 full-length and 20 short films—32 films in total.

Feature films must be at least 70 minutes in duration, while short films must be a minimum of 30 minutes long.

According to the conditions outlined, only local filmmakers and producers are eligible to apply for the government grant.

Story submissions must come from producers, directors, noted film personalities, or professionals involved in relevant fields. Individuals or organisations may apply separately for both feature-length and short films.

However, in the case of feature films, no producer will be eligible to apply again unless their previously granted film has been released. Similarly, for short films, no reapplication will be allowed without a certification letter.

Interested applicants must submit 12 copies of a complete proposal, including the film's storyline, screenplay, cast details, overall production plan, and a list of both artistes and crew members.

The government's decision regarding the grant is final. It also reserves the right to impose new conditions even after the grant has been sanctioned.

The annual grant initiative aims to promote creativity and talent in the film industry while preserving the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh.

Last year, 20 feature films and 6 short films received grants, while the number has increased this year.
