The highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series, set to be produced by HBO, will begin filming in the summer of 2025 at the Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, UK. This is the same location where the original eight Harry Potter films were shot.

Warner Bros' streaming platform, Max, announced that the new show will span over a decade and remain "a faithful adaptation" of JK Rowling's beloved book series. The project will introduce a completely new cast, and an open casting call in September 2023 attracted 32,000 children auditioning for the lead roles, as reported by HBO.

On Thursday, Max shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) with the post: "Wands at the ready. The upcoming HBO Original Series, #HarryPotter, will be filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden with production starting in summer 2025 and premiering on Max."

The original film series, which starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, was also produced by Warner Bros. Grint, who played Ron Weasley, secured his role at age 12 after responding to an open casting call announced on Newsround.

For this TV adaptation, the casting call required applicants to be UK or Ireland residents between nine and 11 years old by April 2025. HBO revealed that its casting team has been reviewing up to 1,000 audition tapes per day from eager young hopefuls.

Warner Bros Studios Leavesden, known for housing "The Making of Harry Potter" studio tour, will again host the magic as the TV series brings the wizarding world to life for a new generation.

The show was officially announced in 2023, with Max expressing that the series would "ignite a new generation of fandom," delivering the beloved characters, fantastical detail, and dramatic settings that Harry Potter fans have adored for over 25 years.

The series will consist of seven seasons, each one adapting one of JK Rowling's iconic books. According to Max, "Each season will stay true to the original books and introduce Harry Potter's adventures to audiences around the globe."

Earlier this year, Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, known for their work on the award-winning series "Succession", were named as executive producers. The actors who will take on the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione are yet to be revealed.
