Madhumita Cinema Hall, one of Dhaka's historic film theatres located in Motijheel, has maintained a strong tradition over the years, celebrating its golden jubilee in 2022. Today, Iftekhar Uddin Noushad, the owner, confirmed that the cinema will close down following this year's Eid screenings. He also shared with The Daily Star that a new multiplex will be built in its place.

Iftekhar Uddin Noushad stated, "I invested a crore into upgrading the hall not long ago, but no films are being shown or premiered here. The only successful films that run are those featuring Shakib Khan, and the hall has been relying on his movies for some time now. Where have our skilled directors disappeared to? What happened to the other heroes? Reflecting on the current state of the industry is disheartening."

The owner continued, "Madhumita will be permanently closed after screening Eid films during the upcoming Eid celebrations. However, if a commercial building is constructed here, I can assure you it will be a multiplex. Despite trying several ways to keep Madhumita operating, it's no longer financially viable for us, so I've reluctantly decided to shut it down. That said, I'm focused on developing multiplexes in the new building. We'll see how much I can achieve with that plan."

The next film to be showcased at Madhumita Cinema Hall is "Borbaad", starring Shakib Khan, set to be released during this year's Eid-ul-Fitr. This will be the cinema's final screening, as the hall, which opened on December 1, 1967, is set to come to a close.
