'Inside Out 2' enters top 10 highest-grossing films, surpasses 'The Avengers'
Disney and Pixar's "Inside Out 2" has surpassed the 2012 film "The Avengers" to join the list of the top 10 highest-grossing films worldwide. The movie, which is nearing US $1.524 billion in global earnings, has secured the #10 position, overtaking "The Avengers", which earned US $1.521 billion.
According to Box Office Mojo, James Cameron's "Avatar", released in 2009, remains at the top spot with a lifetime gross of US $2,923,706,026 at the box office. Although "Inside Out 2" has edged out "The Avengers", the 2019 MCU film "Avengers: Endgame" holds the second position with earnings of US $2,799,439,100.
James Cameron's 2022 film "Avatar: The Way of Water" ranks third with a lifetime gross of US $2,320,250,281, while his 1997 film "Titanic" holds the fourth position with US $2,264,750,694. The fifth to ninth spots are occupied by "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" (2015), "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018), "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021), "Jurassic World" (2015), and "The Lion King" (2019). "Inside Out 2" has currently earned US $1,525,262,246.
"Inside Out 2" is anticipated to soon exceed the US $1 billion threshold and has already become the highest-grossing film worldwide for 2024. Released in theatres on June 14, the film has been lauded for its depiction of girlhood.
If its box office success continues, it is likely to rise further on the charts. To secure the ninth position, it needs to surpass "The Lion King's" US $1,656,943,394. Additionally, "Inside Out 2" is the only film this year to cross the US $1 billion mark so far.
"Inside Out 2" is a follow-up to the 2015 blockbuster "Inside Out". The sequel delves further into Riley's psyche, where Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust encounter new emotions such as Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui.
