Jasim hid sadness in his heart: Anjana

Today (August 14) marks the birth anniversary of eminent film star, Abul Khayer Jasim Uddin, popularly known as Jasim. On the occasion of his birth anniversary, veteran actress Anjana Rahman has shared unknown facts about this iconic actor.

"Jasim Bhai, the action king of Bengali cinema, went from being an antagonist to a protagonist. He will always be the brightest star in the history of the Bengali cinema," said Anjana. "He took himself to such a height, that his place in the hearts of the audience is irreplaceable forever. We shared the screen together in many films." said Anjana.

Anjana also shared that Jasim hid sadness in his heart.

"He often asked me, 'Am I not a good actor? I have acted in so many films, but didn't get any national award or recognition' -- he had shared with tears in his eyes. My reply to him was: The love he got from the audience is his biggest achievement," she added.

 

Jasim was born on August 15, 1951, in Nawabganj, Boxnagar. He was one of the most cherished artistes in the industry, with many hits. He has shared the screen with almost all the prominent actresses who ruled over the silver screen during the 80s and 90s. His on-screen chemistry with Shabana and Rozina was the most popular.

Jasim was also a freedom fighter and had actively participated in the 1971 Liberation War. The "Muktijoddha Chitronayok Jasim Floor" (Freedom Fighter Film Actor Jasim) at BFDC, is named after him.

He married actress Sucharita, however, they parted ways and later the actor tied the knot with Nasrin. She is the daughter of Purnima Sen, who was featured in Bangladesh's first feature film "Mukh O Mukhosh".

Together, Jasim and Nasrin have three sons Ratul, Sami and Rahul. All three of them are well known musicians.

Some of his other remarkable films include "Rongbaz", "Moheshkhalir Baankey", "Barood", "Bodla", "Koshai", "Bahadur", "Ek Muthi Bhaat", "Shundori Ashami Hajir", "Protihingsha, "Manshonman", "Laili Mojnu","Nazma", "Gaddar", "Shobuj Shathi", "CID", "Love in Singapore", "Obhijan", "Akrosh", and "The Rain".
